NZ Athletes Volunteering with Kitendo Children’s Charity

Juliette Haigh, Norm Maxwell & Rebecca Scown visiting the KCC slum community on Friday

Kitendo Children’s Charity (KCC) is honored and thrilled to welcome NZ Rowing pair and Olympic bronze medalists, Rebecca Scown and Juliette Haigh and NZ Rugby Union player Norm Maxwell to KCC.   All three athletes are self-funding a block time of volunteering with through NZ based volunteering company IVHQ. Away from their routines, training and the comforts of home, they have all come to make a difference in Kenya.

The athletes are volunteering at our ECD school with teaching and helping with the feeding programme. Then in the afternoons they will be visiting other schools in the Naivasha community with a special program; NZ Athletes Schools Tour. Visiting five primary and secondary schools the athletes will be presenting motivational talks with students by sharing their journey to encourage, uplift and inspire. Using PowerPoint we will present videos from the athlete’s successes, photos and some NZ culture and flavor! The objective is to encourage students to work hard, pursue their dreams and never give up. All five schools have students from very poor backgrounds and the schools rarely receive such caliber of visitors.

Then on Wednesday 14th we are taking our ECD School on a field trip to Lake Naivasha with boat rides to see the hippos,  followed by a NZ style BBQ under the Acacia trees! Look out for photos and video over the coming 3 weeks on Facebook.
