Catherine

Catherine Mukami

Co-Founder / CEO

Catherine grew up in the tea and coffee growing region of Kenya in Ruiru, Central Province. Her background is in SME businesses and  in 2009 she made the move to Naivasha where she and her family now host volunteers on placement from IVHQ.  Co-founding Kitendo Children’s Charity, her passion and clear focus see the organisation succeeding by building strong foundations and challenging the poverty mindset. Her main areas of responsibility are organisation management, women’s empowerment, HIV/AIDS programming, volunteer welfare, human resources, school management and community empowerment. Catherine has seen first-hand the challenges that poverty has on a country and the effects it can have on a society and is highly motivated to work towards change to come to her country.

 

 

 

Eva

Eva Nyawira

Head Teacher (Early Childhood Development)

Eva grew up in KCC’s informal settlement and has many memories from living in the dusty roadside housing. After finishing at DN Handa Secondary School she joined Kitendo Children’s Charity when the organization was just starting out in 2009. From the first stages of KCC to today, Eva has seen every stage of the project and has been a vital part of our team. In 2010 Kitendo Children’s Charity fully sponsored her first level of tertiary education, helping her gain a Certificate in Early Childhood Development. Since, she has gone on to complete a diploma in ECD as well. Eva is a joyful and confident young teacher who teaches our oldest children while serving her community with the    daily running of the children’s programmes.

 

 

Damaris

Damaris Mugure

Early Childhood Development Teacher

Damaris’ come’s from the foothills of snow-capped Mt Kenya in Central Province. Damaris’ dream was always to become a teacher and now has attained her Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Child Psychology at Neema ECD College in Nyahururu, Kenya. She has a bright outlook on the future with aspirations to continue her education with a Degree. Damairs has not looked back after joining Kitendo Children’s Charity in January 2012 where she now teaches our Middle Class pupils. With a hardworking philosophy and a determination to see every child succeed in life, she is in helping to bring the best out in children before they arrive at primary school.

 

 

 

 

Esther Muiruri

Early Childhood Development Teacher

Esther came to KCC Programme as a volunteer four years ago. She had been a teacher in an inclusive school and was looking for an opportunity to give back to the community. Her experience with special needs children together with her Montesori skills made her the perfect fit for our programme. She has been very instrumental in assisting our children that have developmental issues and has also improved our children’s hands-on skills by incorporating the Montesori way of learning in the curriculum.

 

 

 

 

 

Jane Gathoni

School Cook

Jane joined the KCC Programme at the beginning of 2016. She was previously running multiple small businesses at KCC’s informal settlement  before deciding that the position of school cook very much appealed to her. Jane is dedicated to the children at KCC and continuously provides us with on-time nutritious meals, while assuring that KCC’s volunteers are incorporated into the meal preparation. Jane is the perfect fit for this job because she has always had a strong passion for both cooking and child care.

 

 

 

 

 

Amos Marende

School Security Guard

Amos has been working with the KCC Programme since we opened in 2009. He has been very dedicated to our team and is always ensuring that KCC is a safe place for our children. His hard work and faithfulness to our program is a key reason we have come this far.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Laban Chege

Program Accountant

Laban has been volunteering with the KCC program on a part time basis since 2010. Being a CPA 5 holder, he has a lot of accounting experience and has been very instrumental in the structuring of our financial policies and procedures. He does all the programs accounting and tenders our books for external auditing every year end. Laban is very committed and ensures that our returns are filed with the Kenya Revenue Authorities every month and NGO Coordination Board at the end of every year.
